Tennis Squad Hits the Courts Running

Hampden-Sydney tennis has led a veritable revolution in ODAC tennis over the past four years. Since the appearance of head coach Murrie Bates, named 2008 ODAC Coach of the Year and 2009 VaSID Coach of the Year, the Tiger tennis program has grown by leaps and bounds from a competitor in the conference, to the underdog champions at last year’s ODAC championship, to now finally occupying the throne of ODAC tennis, brought about by the exceptional execution of an experienced and talented squad of players.

Editor, the Tiger:
Everyone on the tennis team appears to have trained hard in the off-season. Practice has not even started yet, however the HSC Tennis Tigers have been out on the courts working hard. We have been playing baseline games, rallying the ball to improve consistency, and working on doubles. Everyone (Kevin Calhoun, Tal Covington, Ryan Davis, Shad Harrell, Kenneth Holzapfel, Matt MacFarland, William Moss, Zach Pack, Rich Pugh, Ian Samler, and myself) contributed to an ODAC title last year, and everyone expects to win an ODAC title this …
