The Hampden-Sydney soccer team’s regular season ended on October 25th on an emotional Senior Day at Miller Field. Going into the final day of the season, the Tigers needed a win and some help to qualify for the playoffs. To do that, the Tigers would have to best the conference leading Roanoke College Maroons. Huntingdon gives football squad rare out of conference loss
The end of September saw an occurrence Tiger football fans are very unfamiliar with: a non-conference loss. The Tigers quest for another perfect season ended on the 24th with a heartbreaking 34-27 road loss to Huntingdon College, the first regular season non-ODAC loss since the Tigers dropped a 2007 decision to Johns Hopkins. The Tiger soccer team opened up ODAC plays on September 14, with a 1-0 loss to Virginia Wesleyan, but the team was able to rebound three days later with a 2-0 win over visiting Greensboro College. The Tigers then hosted Ferrum College and defeated the Panthers 4-0 with goals from Alex Thexton, Curran Blackwell, and Robert Stephens. As the Hampden-Sydney Cross Country team has begun to kick off their season, we have seen glimpses of greatness. The runners have shown that they have been working hard this offseason and certain runners have propelled themselves to the top of the pack. Andrew Stoddard ‘14, Yonathan Ararso ‘13, Andrew Craver ‘13 and Ned Belliveau ‘14 have set the bar high and led the team powerfully.

The Hampden-Sydney soccer team started the 2011 season off on September 3rd with an 8-0 beat down of Berkley (NJ) and finished the weekend up with a 5-1 rout of future ODAC conference foe Shenandoah University. After such a high-powered start to the season, the Tigers were riding high, but they would be brought back down to earth after two consecutive losses to Mary Washington and Maryville (TN).

“I feel that the Hampden-Sydney Golf team can compete this year for the ODAC Championship,” said John Prengaman, Head Coach of the Hampden-Sydney Golf team.

The Tigers look to return to the NCAA playoffs and reclaim the ODAC championship after rival Washington & Lee captured the title last season. The long dreary months of winter have finally subsided and spring is here. This means different things to all: flowers blooming, unpredictable weather, and seasonal allergies but for the sports fan this time means one thing: baseball.
