WZRD-WZRD
4 Stars
WZRD, a band made up of rap superstar KiD CuDi and producer Dot Da Genius, is an ambitious side project for CuDi, who is well known for his trippy rap songs like “Day and Night,” “Mr. Rager,” and “Pursuit of Happiness”. WZRD is a rock album; first and foremost, CuDi completely abandons his rapping for this album, instead focusing on using his signature voice to sing in the style of traditional rock over spacey beats that CuDi fans know well. The album’s different style may not sit well with …

Of Montreal- Paralytic Stalks
3 stars
This Athens, Georgia band’s 11th studio album is just as odd as the first ten. However, odd does not mean bad as the album bounces from tracks with heavy trance influences to more familiar indie pop sounds. The album kicks off with “Gelid Ascent” a trippy space-age jam that draws the listener in with its synth sound which then builds to a break and that is where the vocals and drums come in. Every song on the album seems to draw from different sources and influences …

Foster the People- Torches
Grade: 4.5 Stars
Breakout artist Foster the People’s album Torches was nominated for a Grammy as was hit single “Pumped Up Kicks.” The album, despite just being 10 songs long, is one of the best of the year. Besides mega-hit “Pumped Up Kicks,” the songs “Helena Beat,” “Call it What You Want,” and “Don’t Stop” are some highlights from the album. The album’s 21st century indie/dance/pop sound gives the band a unique sound that they can confidently call their own. The band is also a master of the …

Drake-Take Care
Rating: B+ (4.5)
In his second album Drake proves that he deserves to be among the best rap artists making music today. Take Care is solid work from start to finish. The album opens with “Over My Dead Body,” a mellow tune that has Drake quasi-singing over a soft piano melody about how despite the money, he hopes not to change. Resisting the temptations of money is the main theme of the entire album, along with his reactions to an ever-changing environment and his hope to remain true to who …

Lion King 3D
Enjoyable to watch: 5
Invigorating to the mind: 3
Chance it makes a good date: 5
Script: 5
Cinematography: 5
Overall average: 4.6

Lion King 3D brings forth a new viewing of a modern classic. The film will be shown in select theatres for two weeks. Before going to the theatre, one knows that the 3-D effect is not required for a film that has the memorable cast of James Earl Jones, Jeremy Irons, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, and Nathan Lane, well-composed songs and a story tried and true. This is different from other …

Hailing from London, England, Mumford and Sons comes on the indie folk scene singing loud and proud. Their deep-rooted love for country, folk, and bluegrass is completely clear in their debut album Sigh No More.  Though the CD was released in February of this year, I feel that it’s worth a review. Besides, the band is definitely worth getting the word out about – in fact, Mumford and Sons would be a choice of mine for a future Greek Week band in the concert put on by the CAC. Mumford …

Friendship can be a great thing…especially when it’s the title of The Redneck Manifesto’s new CD just recently out March 27th on the independent Irish record label, The Richter Collective. This is the first full-length CD out for TRM in six years with their release of I Am Brazil in 2004. The Redneck Manifesto has been slaving away at this album, and it’s very clear after giving it a listen. This is definitely their best work since their first full-length record Thirty Six Strings (2001). We can tell that the …

Like I have said in previous articles, 2010 is the year for sequels with Iron Man 2, Halo: Reach, and Dead Space 2 coming out in the coming months. The year of sequels continues with the release of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
All I can say is “wow” when playing BC2. The Frostbite© engine which ran the first game and allowed for the copious amount of gorgeous cut-scenes and destruction has been reworked and has improved the game ten-fold.  In the first Bad Company …

So, it wouldn’t be college without some sort of Halo game, right? In 2007 came Halo 3, which finished the Halo story-arc, and in early 2009 came Halo Wars to add some back-story. For late 2009, however, came Halo 3: ODST to finally bridge the plot gap between Halo 2 and Halo 3.
As per the name, in Halo 3: ODST, the player plays as an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper (ODST) who is hot-dropped in just before the destruction of New Mombasa. So, that means no more …
