From the Intercultural Affairs Committee

Dear Hampden-Sydney College Community:

Over the years, our community has taken great strides to increase our diversity. Along the way, we all have worked to manage the difficulties that commonly arise when such changes take place. The members of the Intercultural Affairs Committee have been pleased to see these changes and applaud those who have labored so hard to make this an environment that is welcoming to all.

We still have much work to do. Most of us are aware of incidents that took place last year which threatened the safety of our community. These incidents reflect badly on us all and are in opposition to the ideals of Hampden-Sydney College. We of the IAC hope that in the future, should other intolerant actions be committed, that all members of our community (students, faculty, and staff) will publicly decry such acts and engage in open dialogue about the effects of harassment on the well-being and safety of all who live and work here at HSC.

The members of the Intercultural Affairs Committee pledge to be advocates for anyone who has been a victim or witness of harassment, violence, or discrimination they feel is based on race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, and/or disability. Please contact any member of the committee if you have suggestions or concerns.
Sincerely,

Christa Fye, Chair

I don’t think it’s too late to publicly decry any incidents that took place last year. Why don’t we go ahead and do that now?

    Thanks for this letter.
